Restocking Fee
A restocking fee is a percentage of the order value that some sellers deduct from returns to cover the cost of processing returned inventory.
Restocking fees are common in traditional retail, especially for opened electronics or oversized items — typically 10–25% of the order value. They compensate the seller for the labor of receiving, inspecting, and re-shelving a returned product.
In print-on-demand, restocking fees make less sense because returned items generally can't be re-sold. A custom print of someone's dog isn't going back into inventory. Some POD sellers charge restocking fees anyway; others (including us) don't.
When evaluating a seller's return policy, look for restocking fees in the fine print. A "free returns" advertisement means little if the fee eats 20% of your order.
