Custom Family Portraits
The family photo, but not awkward. Any style, any setting, everyone actually looking at the camera.
Who this is for
Parents, grandparents, and siblings who want a real family portrait without the three-hour photo session.
Why it's hard elsewhere
Studio family portraits are expensive and stiff. Phone photos never quite work on the wall. You want something intentional, specific to your people, without herding everyone into matching outfits.
How portraits.com solves it
- 1
Include everyone — kids, partners, grandparents, dog, cat, the ferret.
- 2
Any style, from watercolor to photorealistic to storybook illustration.
- 3
No photoshoot, no scheduling, no matching polos required.
- 4
Great for the annual holiday card or a permanent piece above the couch.

Styles that work great for this
What people say
“Herding four kids plus two dogs into a photo shoot is a nightmare. Described everyone and got back a framed watercolor. Way less yelling.”
“Used an old photo of my grandparents as anchor and added our whole extended family in a modern setting. My mom wept. Happy tears, I think.”
“As a blended family, finding art that felt like 'us' was hard. This let us describe everyone exactly. Kids' birth parents included, no weirdness.”
Questions, answered
- How many people can be in one portrait?
- Up to about eight people before things start getting squished. For larger families, we recommend grouping — a wide painterly piece that can handle 10+ faces works better than packing them into a small one.
- What if my family is blended or non-traditional?
- All families welcome — describe everyone however feels right. Same-sex parents, step-siblings, chosen family, the cat you call your firstborn. The AI handles any family structure.
- Can I include someone who's no longer with us?
- Yes, and we've done many of these. Upload an old photo and describe the scene. Our memorial-portraits page has more guidance if it's for a service.
- Do I need everyone's photo?
- Helpful but not required. Even a few reference photos plus written descriptions of the others works well.
- Can I get a version for the annual holiday card?
- Yes — every order includes the high-res digital file. Use it on cards, Instagram, the family group chat.
