Maya led the art direction team at Shutterfly for five years, where she was responsible for the house style across hundreds of thousands of customer-printed products each month. Before that she freelanced with indie publishers and ran a risograph studio out of her apartment in Bushwick. At Portraits she owns the visual system end-to-end — from the library of style presets our generation pipeline draws from, to the composition rules that keep every output gallery-worthy, to the packaging a customer finally unboxes. Maya cares obsessively about the small stuff: paper weight, the way an ink dries, whether a frame miter feels tight enough in hand. She is a bad cook and a very good ceramicist, and will happily talk to anyone about the difference between a Mogens Koch frame and the fakes.
